Voilà un surprenant végétal de petite taille, que j'ai découvert il y a peu de temps ou l'identification a été fastidieuse. Il appartient a la famille des HYPOXIDACEAE.
Il est originaire de la partie Est de l'Afrique du Sud, du Lesotho et du Natal, sur la chaîne montagneuse du Drakensberg, où les étés sont souvent arrosés mais ou les hivers sont relativement secs.
La période de floraison se produira de mai jusqu'en juin avec une explosion de couleur, il est moyennement rustique il pourra tenir jusqu'à -8°C, pour cause de nombreux bulbes souterrains qui l'aident à surmonter ce fardeau, et ainsi renaître des cendres au printemps.
Il sera préférable de le cultiver en pot pour profiter au mieux de la floraison, en pleine terre dans une rocaille le nombre de fleurs sera moindre, donc moins impressionnant, malheureusement.
